New Office:
In March we established our first Committee of 100/Tibet Online office at 2288 Fulton Street in Berkeley, California. We share the space with The International Committee of Lawyers for Tibet as well as Bay Area Friends of Tibet, and now welcome Meg Moser of the Tibetan Nuns Project, who joined us in the space in July.
New President:
We welcome our new President, Dan Haig, who took office at the annual meeting last September. Dan is an Internet consultant and has created www.tibet.org, along with numerous other Tibet community Web sites. We thank our former President Michael Bachmann, who remains on the Board, and wish him luck as he pursues his medical studies.
Hague Peace Conference:
Kasur Tenzin Tethong, our Chairman, represented the Committee and the US Tibetan community at the Hague Appeal for Peace Conference in May. With 10,000 participants from 100 countries, the conference was the largest international peace conference ever held and focussed on abolishing war and creating a culture of peace into the 21st century.
Documentary Film Event:
In June, we were pleased to present two sold-out SF Bay Area premieres of a new BBC documentary by Tenzing Sonam and Ritu Sarin, Shadow Circus: The CIA in Tibet. The film, screened on the Berkeley and Stanford campuses, tells the secret story of CIA - trained Tibetan rebels who fought for independence for Tibet in the 50s and 60s, with unique archival footage as well as exclusive interviews with former rebels and surviving CIA operatives.
