The Gizard

anything more

well i been to shambhala
been to valinor
hung out in valhalla
but i wanted even more

so i set out on a journey
i set out with a smile
went trudging across the desert
mile after mile

i came at last to eden
on the far side of a dune
slid into the jungle
and howled up at the moon

how could I ask for anything more?

well the days went by as eons
'cause everything was new
the nights lasted forever
'cause i spent them all with you

we gave it all a name
called it what we would
it seemed just like we owned it
at least it felt just like we should

well i did not stand too long
in the field of my dreams
i did not heed the warnings
and chopped down all the trees

i burned the first one for the wood
the heat kept me alive
burned the second for the food
i cooked to help me thrive

third one died so i could live
in a house that suited me
forty more went to build a bridge
to the land of prosperity

after that i'm not so sure
why they just kept coming down
but it always seemed like there was enough
trees to go around

after we ran out in the hood
i went to another shore
killed the people who were living there
just to have just a little bit more

killed the trees and the animals too
just to get em all outa my way
finally there was nothing left
to show on the judgement day

how could I ask for anything more?

so i ended up in hades
pushing rocks uphill
the gods they make me do it
for all the lives i killed

they say I shoulda known better
trying to make it all mine
i suffer down here by myself
it suits them all just fine

so here i slave all day
and here i work all night
i hope you all come join me
and i think that you just might

how could i ask for anything more?
